Bridesmaids… Where do we start?

SVHands down one of the more complicated parts of planning a wedding is organizing your bridesmaids. Let’s start at the very beginning, a very good place to start (yep that was a Sound of Music reference).

First up, decide on how many bridesmaids you will be having. Sounds simple enough but I say this because when bridesmaids get added in later things get a little trickier (more about this to come). Think carefully about who you want standing up there with you, who is willing to take on the financial responsibility of being a bridesmaid, and finally who is going to make the experience fun and enjoyable.

Second, make an appointment with us! Here is why we recommend this. We carry four different bridesmaids’ lines in the store, each line has at least 25 gowns to choose from, each gown has their own set of colours to choose from, and lastly each bridesmaid needs to figure out what size she will need to order. These are reasons why we prefer you book an appointment, that way when you come in with your party we have a consultant ready to rock and roll and answer all the questions under the sun that come with ordering these dresses.

Now that we have all of you gathered in the store, your consultant will first have you look at the colour swatches. We start here because each line has their own specific colours, so you pick the colour you want first and then we look for dresses in the corresponding designer. Have I lost you yet? Don’t worry I wouldn’t blame you if I did. Breathe and reboot.MLG

The consultant’s main job now is to grab each dress that is a possibility. Again this is why we say to give us a heads up before coming in because we need to make sure we are fully prepared for you. The bridal party now takes turns trying on all the gowns, much discussion happens here, but hopefully a decision is able to be made on a dress and colour.

Now that we have the dress and colour the bridal party will wear, we need to take measurements. We measure the bust, waist, and hip of each girl to then match up with the size chart of the designer to see what size will be best to order. Now we all live on planet Earth, which means none of us really are ever a true perfect size all the way down. Our waist may be a 10, our booty may be an 8, and our bust might be a…. 2 (boo). Generally we take the largest measurement to order, and then alterations need to be done once the dress comes in to make sure it fits perfectly all around.

Okay, tired yet? No, good. Let’s keep going. The colour, dress, and size has been selected, now the fun part. Let’s go pay! Yay! Bridesmaid dresses run between $215-$400. We need 50% down to order the dress and then we take the remainder 30 days later. That way when the dress comes in it’s all paid off and you don’t have to whip out the plastic. Oh and if your bridal party has 3 or more girls we give you 10% off each dress. Yay twice!

Now everyone listen up, this is important. Bridesmaid styles take a minimum of 3-4 months to come in. Yep I said it, 3-4 months. Crazy I know but here is why: these dresses are actually made to order, they are not hanging out in a warehouse somewhere. When we put the order in, the little mice get to work and start cutting the fabric. This is also why these dresses are final sale, they are made specifically for you and they won’t take them back even if we beg.

Remember an hour ago when I mentioned making sure you don’t add bridesmaids after you have already ordered? We try to deter you from this because all dresses are cut from the same bolt of fabric per party. So if a month later you add another bridesmaid, her dress will not be cut from the same bolt of fabric as the others. So the potential of a slight colour variance is possible. So, pick your girls and stick with it.

What if you don’t have 3-4 months to wait? Well each designer has a specific rush option, so if you are pressed for time you can get things speedier. However, the designers each have their own rush fee that they charge per dress to express it. So it’s important to be mindful of your timeline, that way you don’t have to spend more money than necessary.

I think that about covers it, I know I threw a lot of information at you. But like I said, there are so many factors and variables that go in to ordering these dresses so it’s important to know what you are dealing with before coming in. However, the good thing about us is we are happy to answer questions, so if any of this was gibberish then don’t hesitate to call us and chat about it!ml
